ARMY OF CREATIVE PEOPLE.
There is a lot that goes into making a film. it's not just placing a camera at an angle or throwing heavy beam lights on the floor, it's not just about the actors who work hard to bring the characters to life or it's not just about a production designer who builds the world for the story to live in.
The film is never about one person but there are plenty of people who take effort into getting it right so that you can dive into the world and forget about reality.
Welcome to my 1st ever essay on films. I love films, I love making them, I love watching them but there are times when there are just too many details in a film that we missed while casually watching.
Recently I saw Army of the Dead by Zack Snyder, ( Spoilers warning )but what intrigued me was the Behind the scenes film released by Netflix on how the film was made. They had a zombie horse and a real horse was dressed in a zombie outfit. Dam! that's taking things to the next level.

Definitely Army of the Dead is not one of my all-time favourites, but I love the genre. The team especially the prosthetic team has gone soo far as to even departmentalise the zombies in 4 different categories based on the level of infection that hit them. They dressed 100s of extras in zombie costumes and makeup and that too for several days, ask yourself would you be interested to sit in a chair for more than an hour while the glue is been painted all over you to stick dead skin patches. Not to forget, any kind of suits is an invitation to heat. Still, the team performs within that complexity.
The zombie tiger was a highlight and was an obvious choice of doing VFX but the surprise was that the horse that Alpha Zeus rides was a real one dressed as a zombie.
I did have an issue with the cinematography of the film but it's subjective. My only concern was the there were too many close-up shots with shallow depth of field which couldn't really show much of the glory of the zombies attacking or the world that las vegas had turned into.
The use of such a technique is only accessible when you don't have a budget and a very personal story to tell. but again as I said my opinion is subjective.
I love the use of animatronics for the queens head mixed with a couple of VFX shots. It's been a while since practical effects are used in films.
The deconstruction of vegas was an interesting aspect. they shot still life photos of the entire city and also lidar scanning ( the one iPhone brags about these days ) to create vegas on a computer. It's such a huge thing and you need a ninja level of patience to achieve what was achieved on film.
overall, The film may or may not make an impact but these BTS films help soo many filmmakers in the world to get inspired and even learn how to build a cinematic world.
Thank you Netflix to release the BTS and also an interesting fact is the BTS film army of the dead is available in Dolby Vision.
Watch the title Creating Army of the Dead on Netflix.
